1: Best Wall Mounted Headboard – Barn Walls
If you’re after a unique looking wall mounted headboard (that can even be used with your adjustable bed) then I highly recommend this handcrafted, dark walnut stain headboard from Barn Walls.
And I say ‘unique’ because these headboards really are one of a kind thanks to the variation in the way the wood absorbs the oil based stain, and the individual nature of how the knots in the wood form.
Plus, you can arrange the panels in any order that you like to create a headboard that suits your style.
So when you’ve got this hanger style headboard taking centre stage in your bedroom, you can feel proud knowing that there’s no other headboard quite like it in any other home other than yours!
Reasons to Buy
- Unique qualities – no two headboards are the same.
- Made from real wood from sustainable forests – making this a great eco buy.
- Easy to install – hooks, nails, and step-by-step instructions included.
- Works with adjustable beds.
- Variable height – adjustable to suit your bed.
- Formaldehyde is NOT used on this product.
- A range of different stains and styles available to suit your decor.
- Although the seller says that you can lean against the headboard – make sure it’s attached properly before doing so.
One of the best things about this headboard is the wide range of styles that it comes in.
I really love how they have a huge number of weathered, stained, and mixed boards plus colours to allow you to really buy a headboard that’s perfect for your decor.
For example, the weathered boards offer a vintage look that reminds me of a surfer’s shack… seemingly filling the room with a crisp ‘sea air’ feel – offsetting your sheets to make them shimmer brilliantly.
Whilst the stains and mixes bring out the unique grain of the wood to elicit almost emotive tones that make me want to spend all Sunday morning lazing around in bed.

Style wise, I think that this is one of the bolder headboards on this list because I find the bronze look to be pretty eye catching – but thankfully stopping short of being garish.
Which I believe is down to the subtle sheen, folded seams, deep button tufting, and the plush velvet fabric.

Headboard FAQs and Buying Guide
Did you find your ideal headboard from the list above?
If not check, out the FAQs below to help arm you with some extra knowledge to help you shop for headboards more efficiently on your own.
If there’s anything else you’d like to know – just leave your question in the comments section at the end of the post and I’ll get back to you ASAP.
What is a Headboard?
A headboard is a piece of furniture that sits on the end of your bed closest to where your head and pillows are when you sleep.
Headboards are typically made out of wood or metal and may or may not be upholstered – which means that the framework is covered with padding.
Such examples of the types of materials used to create upholstered headboards include real leather, faux leather, vinyl, and even velvet.
But what exactly is a headboard for?
Headboards were originally created to stop you from being bothered by drafts and the cold that typically emanates from stone and brick walls in poorly insulated buildings – by creating both a space and acting as barrier.
And with the advent of heating systems and better insulation technology, it could be argued that headboards are somewhat redundant in modern homes these days.
But there are a few reasons why you might still want to purchase a headboard for your bed.
Do You Need a Headboard?
The strongest argument for having a headboard is to protect your wall.
I remember when I was a kid, I didn’t have a headboard and whilst turning in my sleep, my nails would scrape away the paint and material of the textured wallpaper. Also, headboards can typically be a lot easier to clean than the wall.
Beyond this, a headboard can help keep your pillows in place if your bed is away from the wall, and can even help prop you up in bed if you’re watching TV, reading a book, or working on your laptop.
However, many folks will buy a headboard purely for aesthetic reasons – since they can often act as the centrepiece of your bedroom decor to create a cosy ambience by covering up the harshness of a bare wall.
What is a Tufted Headboard?
A tufted headboard is an upholstered headboard that has depressions in the material at regular intervals.
This appearance is created by passing threads through the material and securing them to the backboard – which actually strengthens the structure of the material.
Typically, the threads will be topped with a button (a button tufted headboard) or crystal.
What is a Diamond Tufted Headboard?
Originally, I thought that a diamond tufted headboard was a tufted headboard with diamonds in it (don’t laugh!).
But actually, a diamond tufted headboard is an upholstered headboard that has depressions in it so they form the SHAPE of a diamond.
What is a Faux Leather Headboard?
A faux leather headboard is basically a headboard that’s made out artificial or synthetic leather.
And whilst faux leather may sound inferior to real leather – it’s typically lower in cost but can still be very durable.
What is a Wingback Headboard?
A wingback headboard is different from other headboards because it has two ‘wings’ attached at the sides that run parallel to the mattress for a very short duration.
What is a Wall Mounted Headboard?
A wall mounted headboard – sometimes called a wall hung headboard – is a headboard that instead of being attached directly to the bed frame, is attached to the wall.
Wall-mounted headboards are typically very stylish and extend to a height above the bed that’s far greater than an attached headboard.
What is the Best Headboard for Reading in Bed?
I would say that number 1 on this list (the Madison Park) is the best headboard for reading in bed.
But to be totally honest, I personally wouldn’t rely on a headboard for reading in bed.
Because although you might be able to get comfy by choosing a headboard with decent padding and moving your pillows around – it could strain your neck and damage your posture.
Instead, I’d look at purchasing an adjustable bed – so that you can raise your head to the perfect height for reading, watching TV, or working on your laptop.
Check out my list of the best adjustable beds here to find your ideal adjustable bed quickly.
What is the Best Headboard for an Adjustable Bed?
Number 2 on this list (the Barn Walls) is one of the best headboards that you can use with an adjustable bed because it mounts to the wall and so avoids a lot of the complexities of trying to find a headboard that will fit your adjustable bed (see how to attach a headboard to an adjustable bed here).
Plus, the Barn Walls looks amazing with its dark walnut finish.
