Hybrid mattresses are some of the best beds that you can buy.
This is because the combination of spring support coils and adaptive comfort foam means that you could end up with mattress that has great support, moulds to your exact body shape for pressure relief and comfort, and may even help with pain management.
But not all hybrid mattresses are exactly the same.
And the subtle differences in how the comfort and support layers are designed can result in a very different feel relative to your body weight and dominant sleeping position.
That’s why my Zinus hybrid mattress reviews below compare two popular mattresses – the 14 Inch Gel Infused Memory Foam mattress, and the Euro Box Top Hybrid Foam and Spring mattress – to help you find out which one is right for you.
But if you don’t like either one then be sure to check out my list of the top mattresses to buy online for some high-quality alternatives.

Zinus Hybrid Mattress Reviews
The reviews below are based on my extensive research and own opinions.
This should give you a better impression of how these mattresses are likely to feel before you buy them – without having to lie on them first.
And if you’ve slept on either mattress then please let me know of your thoughts and experiences in the comments section at the end of this post. 🙂
1: Zinus Gel Infused Memory Foam Hybrid Mattress
To summarise, I personally think that the 14 Inch Zinus Gel Infused Memory Foam Hybrid mattress is a superb choice for front, back, side, and combo sleepers in the 130 lbs to 250 lbs weight range.
Because the spring core provides excellent support for heavier weighted sleepers, whilst the medium firmness and the combined 6 inches of comfort foam can adapt to your exact body shape to relieve pressure and keep you comfortable.
But I think that if you’re a side sleeper under 130 lbs then this mattress may feel too firm for you and the Zinus Cloud will be better for you.
Otherwise, see my Zinus Gel-Infused Memory Foam Hybrid mattress review below for more details.
Also, if you buy the 14 inch version of this mattress, then be sure to buy a deep pocket fitted sheet set to ensure that the fitted sheet will stay in place.
Design Analysis
Depending on where you buy this mattress from, you may be able to order it in either 14, 12, and 10 inch thicknesses.
The 14 inch selection is a multilayered mattress that’s topped with a knitted jacquard cover that combines with a layer of microfiber quilted fabric to keep you cool and dry as you sleep.
Beneath this sits a 6 inch comfort layer that’s made up of Comfort Foam®, Fusion Gel Memory Foam, and ViscoLatex Foam to regulate your temperature, provide individualised pressure relief by moulding to your exact body shape, and facilitating a level of responsiveness that allows you to move around in the mattress more easily when compared to a regular memory foam mattress.
The support core consists of 7.25 inches of pocketed iCoils® sandwiched between 0.5 inches of high density foam to provide superior support for your spine by adjusting to your body shape whilst also providing excellent motion isolation to dampen the feeling of your bed partner moving around.
All of the foam used is CertiPUR-US® certified to ensure that you’re getting a mattress that’s made without harmful substances such as formaldehyde whilst also minimising VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds) for better indoor air quality [1].
Performance Analysis
Here’s how I think the 14 inch version of the Zinus Gel-Infused Memory Foam Hybrid mattress performs in the areas that are critical in helping you to decide if this mattress is right for you.
1) Firmness
This is listed as a mattress with a medium level of firmness which means that it will be well suited to a wide range of sleepers due to the moderate amount of surface tension.
However, it’s worth noting that if you go for the thinner versions of this mattress, then it will likely feel firmer because the comfort foam layers get thinner whilst the spring support core stays very much the same in terms of thickness.
2) Support
One of the biggest benefits to the Zinus Gel-Infused Memory Foam Hybrid mattress is it’s superior support layers.
This is thanks to the individual iCoils® that are able to provide custom support for your spine by adjusting to your body shape.
So if you’re an individual that’s over 200 lbs then this is probably going to be a very good mattress for you.
3) Pressure Relief
Unlike traditional innerspring mattresses that tend to excel in terms of support – but can feel very uncomfortable due to their thinner top layer – the 14 inch Zinus Gel-Infused Memory Foam Hybrid mattress comes with 6 inches of foam that’s specifically designed to relieve pressure from areas like your hips and shoulders in a range of sleeping positions to ensure that you remain comfortable.
4) Moving Around
Mattresses that are made purely from memory foam often come up short when it comes to being able to move around in them because the materials have too much ‘give’.
You know when you were a kid and you fell over on the bouncy castle and you couldn’t get up because your hands would sink too far in?
That’s what I think a really bad memory foam mattress feels like!
Thankfully however, this is unlikely to be a problem with the Zinus Gel-Infused Memory Foam Hybrid mattress because of the deep support layer that’s constructed from springs.
Furthermore, the top layer contains ViscoLatex Foam which is designed to have a more responsive feel to guard against excessive sinkage and make it easier for you to switch between sleeping positions and sit up in the bed.
5) Max Weight Capacity
I believe that the maximum weight capacity for the queen version of the 14 inch thickness option is 500 lbs.
This is a bit less than what I was expecting for a hybrid bed, but it’s still adequate for most sleepers.
6) Couples
This is a good mattress if you’re a couple whose collective body weights are less than the 500 lbs limit.
Because the superior support means that you’re less likely to experience indentations and valleys when compared to pure foam mattresses.
And the individually wrapped coils and support foam do a good job of minimising motion transfer to ensure that there’s less chance of you waking each other up as you shuffle around during the night.
7) Edge Support
The edge support for all thickness variations of this mattress is very good indeed.
This is because of the spring support core that’s comparatively superior to pure foam mattresses.
So if you’re the type of side sleeper that tends to hug the edge of the bed then this is a good mattress for you because you won’t have that horrible feeling of feeling like you’re going to fall out.
8) Allergies
I would rate this as a fair mattress for guarding against allergies, but really it will depend on the type of allergies that you’re dealing with in regards to how suitable this mattress is going to be for you.
Because on the one hand the foams are CertiPUR-US® certified which means that they are less likely to irritate your skin and give off particles that could make your asthma worse.
But the coil support core may allow ambient allergens like dust mites to find a home that may cause flare ups.
9) Temperature Regulation
This could be a good mattress for you if you tend to sleep hot because the foam is designed to be cooling, whilst the spring support core is naturally more aerated than a pure foam mattress to improve airflow and regulate your temperature.
However, this mattress might not be the best in an absolute sense, since traditional spring beds with a basic top layer are usually the best at helping you sleep cool because they don’t have the memory foam that absorbs your body heat and reflects it back to you.
So if you do buy this mattress, then I would also purchase some cooling bed sheets too.
10) Keeping You Dry
In addition to the airflow helping to keep you cool, the foam and fabric top layers are infused with charcoal microfiber to pull moisture away from your body.
But if you suffer from night sweats then I would use something like a fitted bamboo bed sheet or a fitted mulberry silk bed sheet to protect your mattress and to wick moisture away for better hygiene.
11) Odour
This mattress is likely to produce a chemical smell immediately after unpacking it because the mattress is compressed during manufacturing and when you allow it to expand to its full size after opening, the particles that create odours are released.
So the best thing to do is to open your windows and keep your room well ventilated until the smell goes away – which should take no more than a few days.
12) Pain
Although pain management is highly subjective, this mattress may be able to help you with back pain and other muscular discomfort.
Because the foam can take away the pressure on angular areas like your shoulders, whilst the strong support core can help to provide great support for your hips and spine – something that can often be missing in low quality foam and even pure innerspring mattresses.
Sleeping Position and Weight Analysis
So is this mattress going to be comfortable for you or not?
Well, that mainly depends upon your dominant sleeping position, your body weight, and how they combine with the structure and qualities of the mattress.
If you don’t know anything about mattresses then this might be hard to discern.
That’s why I’ve taken the time to break everything down in plain English for you below to help you decide if the Zinus Gel-Infused Memory Foam Hybrid mattress is going to be comfortable for you or not.
Front Sleepers
Sleeping on your front is the most precarious position because if your hips sink too far into the mattress then you can quite easily end up with back ache.
But I don’t think this is going to be a problem for you with this mattress if you sleep on your front and weigh less than 250 lbs.
Because if you choose the 14 inch mattress thickness then you’re getting the maximum amount of comfort foam which works with the deep support core to help keep everything aligned and potentially pain free.
I would also recommend this mattress over a pure foam mattress if you sleep as a couple because it’s less likely to create dips and valleys that may cause spaces under your hips and lead to backache when sleeping on your front.
Back Sleepers
Similarly, this is a brilliant mattress for back sleepers due to the excellent support core and adaptive foam top layers.
Side Sleepers
If you go for the 14 inch thickness, then I think that as long as you weigh more than 130 lbs, you’ll be ok with this mattress if you sleep mainly on your side because of the relatively deep foam layers that will adapt to take the pressure off your hips and shoulders.
If you’re a side sleeper under 130 lbs then the mattress may feel a bit too firm because your lighter weight means that you’ll naturally tend to sit on top of the mattress rather than sinking into it – which can feel uncomfortable.
Combo Sleepers
I think this is a good bed for you if you’re a combo sleeper because the spring support core, medium firmness, and ViscoLatex Foam all combine to create enough surface tension to allow you to move around easily.
I would only begin to express caution if you weigh more than 250 lbs since this may make it harder for you to transition between sleeping positions due to the greater downward force that you’re applying to the materials.
Pros
- Provides excellent support for heavier weighted sleepers.
- Comfortable foam top layers to take away the pressure on your hips and shoulders.
- Medium firmness and responsive foam makes it easier to move around in the mattress.
- The iCoils® individually adapt to your body shape to support your spine and guard against back pain.
- Strong edge support to help stop you feeling like you’re falling out.
- Better for warmer sleepers since the spring support core can encourage air flow.
Cons
- Mattress likely to smell for a few days after unpacking – keep your room well ventilated until this passes.
Who Should Buy This Mattress?
- Front sleepers between 130 lbs – 250 lbs
- Back sleepers between 130 lbs – 250 lbs
- Side sleepers between 130 lbs – 250 lbs
- Combo sleepers between 130 lbs – 250 lbs
Who Should Avoid This Mattress?
- Side sleepers under 130 lbs may find this mattress to be too firm.

2: Zinus Euro Box Top Hybrid Foam and Spring Mattress
To summarise, I think that the 12 inch Zinus Euro Box Top Hybrid Foam and Spring mattress is best suited to front and back sleepers between 130 lbs and 200 lbs.
Because although this mattress has a cushioned Euro top, the mattress has a firmer feel overall.
I personally think that side sleepers of all weights should avoid this mattress because it will almost certainly make your hips and shoulders feel uncomfortable.
And you might want to check out the Zinus Cloud that’s better suited for side sleepers under 200 lbs instead.
But if not, have a look at my top bed in a box mattresses that you can buy online for some more alternatives.
Or continue reading my Zinus Euro Box Top Hybrid Foam and Spring mattress review below to find out more about this mattress.
Design Analysis
This is a Euro top mattress.
This means that an extra layer of foam is stitched into the top of the mattress to provide softer cushioning in the centre of the mattress whilst increasing the firmness towards the edge.
Beneath this collectively sits 5.75 inches of high density foam and ViscoLatex Foam to provide individualised comfort and responsiveness to allow you to move around in the mattress more easily.
The base layer is comprised of 6 inches of innersprings to provide support.
The foams are CertiPUR-US® certified and infused with green tea extract and castor seed oil to suppress odour and inhibit bacterial growth.
Performance Analysis
Here’s how I think that the Zinus Euro Box Top Hybrid Foam and Spring mattress fairs in terms of performance in the key areas.
1) Firmness
I would describe this mattress has having a ‘cushioned firm’ level of firmness.
Because although the Euro top is designed to feel soft, there’s a high density foam layer that sits closely beneath it, whilst the innerspring support core can also contribute to the firmer feel overall.
This means that side sleepers need to take care because it may feel too firm on your hips and shoulders, whilst front and back sleepers are more likely to feel comfortable in this mattress due to the increased surface tension and support.
And the firmness is only going to increase if you opt to go for the 10 or 8 inch thicknesses respectively.
2) Support
Although this mattress doesn’t have the patented iCoils® like the Zinus Gel-Infused Memory Foam Hybrid mattress, it does have 6 inches of springs to provide a good level of support.
3) Pressure Relief
Although this is a firmer mattress, the Euro top and nearly 6 inches of comfort foam combine to provide a good level of pressure relief to keep you comfortable when sleeping on your front or back – with side sleepers possibly finding this mattress uncomfortable.
4) Moving Around
I think that moving around in this mattress should be easier when compared to a pure foam mattress because of the high density support foam and spring support core.
5) Max Weight Capacity
I believe that the maximum weight capacity for the 12 inch version of this mattress is 550 lbs.
6) Couples
I don’t think that this mattress is as suitable for couples as the Zinus Gel-Infused Memory Foam Hybrid mattress because it lacks the iCoils that are better suited to absorbing the feelings of your bed partner moving around.
7) Edge Support
The edge support for this bed is fair in my opinion because the application of the Euro top can help to increase the firmness towards the edges to complement the support provided by the coil support core.
Of course, the heavier you are, the worse the edge support is likely to feel.
8) Allergies
This mattress might be ok if you have something like sensitive skin or eczema because the foams are CertiPUR-US® certified.
But it’s probably not the best mattress if you have hayfever or a dust mite allergy because the top layers seem like they may trap pollen and dust mites in my view.
9) Temperature Regulation
If you tend to sleep warm then this mattress might be ok for you because the coil support core can encourage air flow – although the memory foam may retain some heat.
10) Keeping You Dry
I don’t think that this mattress has any additional moisture wicking properties to help keep you dry if you sweat a lot at night.
11) Odour
This mattress is likely to produce an off gassing smell when you unpack it due to particles escaping as it decompresses.
12) Pain
The added firmness and support may help to alleviate back pain if you sleep on your front or back and you’ve previously been sleeping on a mattress that lacks in those areas.
But this mattress may actually cause pain if you sleep on your side – especially if you weigh less than 130 lbs – due to the firmness.
Sleeping Position and Weight Analysis
Overall, the 12 inch version of this mattress is best suited to front, back, and combo sleepers between 130 lbs and 200 lbs due to the firmness and support.
I don’t think this is a good mattress if you sleep on your side because it may put too much pressure on your hips and shoulders.
Here’s a more detailed breakdown of how I personally believe this mattress is suited to the major sleeping positions.
Front Sleepers
The firmness of this mattress may be beneficial if you sleep on your front and weigh between 130 lbs and 200 lbs because it should do a good job of keeping your hips aligned to guard against back pain.
Back Sleepers
The same qualities mean that if you sleep on your back and weigh between 130 lbs and 200 lbs then the support and comfort levels should be ok for you.
Side Sleepers
I don’t recommend this mattress for side sleepers because the firmness may cause discomfort in your hips and shoulders.
Combo Sleepers
Moving around in this mattress should be fairly easy if you weigh less than 200 lbs due to the responsive foam and firmness.
Pros
- Euro top for greater cushioning and comfort.
- Responsive foam top layer for individualised comfort and easier transitioning between sleeping positions.
- Good support from the 6 inches of pocket coils.
Cons
- Might not absorb the feeling of your bed partner moving around as well as the iCoils in the Zinus Gel-Infused Memory Foam Hybrid mattress.
- Off gassing smell likely upon unpackaging.
- Likely to be too firm for side sleepers.
Who Should Buy This Mattress?
- Front sleepers between 130 lbs and 200 lbs.
- Back sleepers between 130 lbs and 200 lbs.
- Combo sleepers between 130 lbs and 200 lbs
Who Should Avoid This Mattress?
- Side sleepers because the increased firmness may cause discomfort on your hips and shoulders.

Which Zinus Hybrid Mattress is the Best?
I personally think that the best Zinus hybrid mattress is the Zinus Gel-Infused Memory Foam Hybrid mattress.
I think that this beats the Euro top because it can potentially accommodate a wider range of sleeping positions and weights.
More specifically, the 14 inch version of the gel infused mattress is a great choice for front, back, and side sleepers in the 130 lbs – 250 lbs range.
Whilst the added firmness and the slightly inferior support core make the Euro top less suitable for couples and pretty much rules out side sleepers completely.
However, you may see qualities in the Euro top based on the reviews above that make it a better choice for you.
